Recently, members of the Youth Development and Skills Support Foundation visited D. McGlade Secondary School in Enugu-Ezike, Enugu State, as part of the foundation’s outreach programme on 11th March 2026. The outreach aimed to raise awareness of the importance of education and skills development in creating a supportive environment that enhances learning and participation. The foundation members addressed all the students and their teachers, numbering about seven hundred, at the assembly ground.
The group received a warm welcome from the school administrator, Rev. Fr. Dennis Agbo. The first speaker, Sr Barr. Chinyere Judith Dinwoke spoke about “Sexual abuse and its implications.” She reminded the students of their rights and responsibilities, encouraging them to speak up against any form of abuse and to seek support when needed. Her presentation was both inspiring and educational, earning her much applause from the students.
The second speaker, Mrs Vivian Ifeoma Eze, a teacher, spoke on the importance of entrepreneurship in Nigeria’s current situation. According to her, skills acquisition is essential for equipping young people with the knowledge and abilities needed to be fully productive in society and to achieve financial independence. She also reminded the students that Nigeria is changing faster than ever. Government jobs that exist today might be greatly reduced in ten years’ time. That is why skills such as carpentry, sewing, shoemaking, catering, and mechanics, as well as similar trades, are just as important as academic knowledge. Her talk was so engaging and lively that it greatly inspired the students.
The last speaker, Fr. Dr Denis Agbo, the foundation’s coordinator, focused on the significance of education among young people. In his speech, he noted that education enables young people to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to participate fully in society. He further advised the teachers to focus on creating an inclusive environment that removes barriers to learning and promotes high standards for all students. His presentation was equally remarkable and inspiring.
After the presentations, students had the chance to ask questions and comment on the visit and the presentations. It was truly inspiring to see students and teachers listening attentively and actively engaging by asking thoughtful, intelligent questions.
During the visit, the foundation donated exercise books, writing pens, and large rubber waste-paper bins to support the students, and pledged to assist indigent students upon notification from the school’s administrator.
After the exercise at the assembly, the foundation members interviewed various students about the teachings and their dreams and inspirations. The interviews revealed the young people’s deep desire and hope to achieve success and happiness in life.
The school staff also expressed their profound joy and gratitude to the foundation members for the visit and for choosing their school for the outreach. The school administrator, Fr. Dennis Agbo, also shared his happiness and warmly hosted the members at the end of the event. Other members of the foundation who joined the school outreach were Ms Patience Mamah, Mrs Josephine Chinyere Ugwu, and Mr Romanus Ishiwu.
