As part of its 2025 Action Plan, the YDASS Foundation organised a seminar for its governing body on 26th November 2025. The workshop titled “Starting and Sustaining an NGO – Non-Governmental Organisation” was facilitated by Prof. Nkadi Onyegegbu of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, at Christ the King’s Parish, Amalla Orba, Nsukka.

The seminar provided valuable insights on establishing and maintaining a non-governmental organisation (NGO), focusing on the Youth Development and Skill Support Foundation (YDASS). Participants expressed their commitment to advancing the NGO’s mission and vision.

Prof. Onyegegbu skillfully navigated the discussion by introducing the foundational concepts of NGOs and what sets them apart from political groups and commercial entities. She highlighted the vital roles and activities NGOs play in Nigeria, noting both their strengths and weaknesses. To address potential challenges, she offered practical solutions to enhance NGOs’ effectiveness.

A significant point of discussion was identifying the beneficiaries of YDASS, which is essential to aligning with the foundation’s mission and vision. The core values of YDASS—empowerment, integrity, innovation, excellence, inclusiveness, and collaboration—were emphasised as the guiding principles that structure the foundation’s objectives.

In closing, Prof. Onyegegbu underscored the importance of sustainability and growth for YDASS. She recommended strategies such as building a robust and engaging social media presence, fostering strong relationships with the community and donors, and committing to continuous training for members through capacity-building initiatives. These steps are essential to ensuring the foundation’s long-term success and impactful work.
