From the Founder's Desk
Nigeria is currently in the grip of urgent and critical issues such as insecurity, corruption, a faltering economy, and high unemployment rates. The escalating incidents of kidnapping and youth unrest are posing a grave threat to our society. Many are now unable to move about freely, and our youth are increasingly falling prey to drugs and exploitation by unscrupulous politicians. The root causes of these problems – poverty, lack of education, and incompetence – are significant. Education is crucial for youth development and individual formation, enabling them to realize their full potential and well-being. As an individual, I have always felt a natural obligation and Christian duty to contribute to improving the situation in Nigeria.
The idea of establishing a foundation to support youth projects in Nigeria began to take shape after my ordination as the dean of studies and vice rector of our minor seminary, the St. John Cross Seminary, Nsukka, Nigeria, in 2003. My role as a formator in the seminary revealed to me the profound impact of early education on a child’s positive development and society. Many of my former students, now priests and ex-seminarians, are thriving in society because of their solid education and formation in their formative years. This personal connection to the cause fuels my passion and commitment to this mission.
My mission experience in Liberia (2007–2013) and as the parish priest of St. Mary’s Parish, Eha-Alumona, Nsukka (2013–2015), further exposed me to the harsh realities of poverty, suffering, and the consequences of lack of education and skills. Unfortunately, my dream of promoting basic education and skill acquisition for underprivileged children remained unfulfilled due to a lack of resources and support. I am happy that today the Foundation has now become a reality, supported by dedicated and talented trustees who share my vision. The Youth Development and Skill Support Foundation is committed to supporting underprivileged children and youth, particularly in the areas of education and skills acquisition. The Foundation aims to reach over 500 children, and with your support, we can bring hope and a brighter future to these children. With the unwavering commitment of the Foundation’s esteemed board of trustees, we are determined to provide support, encouragement, and hope to the less privileged children and youth, and to share God’s love. This mission requires the support of compassionate individuals like you. Together, we can make a difference.
